Girl Scout leader Rehanah is a cool library partner!

On April 22, 2026, in a collaboration with Girl Scout leader REHANAH VERA HASS (Seymour resident)) we planted a tree in the backyard of the library. (Belated thanks!!!)

It was National Library week and Earth Day fell on the Wednesday of that week.

It was the first year for our library to take part in the Neighborhood Forest initiative. The purpose of the group is to get free trees into the hands of all children in the U.S. and then they can plant them with their families in the spring. We held one tree back to use for the Girl Scout project.

Together with Rehanah we had fun activities planned. We made a welcome banner for the sapling. The children voted to name it BLUEY so that name was put on the banner. We read the book Nell Plants A Tree by Anne Wynter and Daniel Miyares. Although the main character plants a pecan tree, the process described was like what we did and was great reinforcement. We are seeing our Canaan Fir grow slowly but surely!

Rehanah is a library star because she showed great enthusiasm for getting the word out to her troop and planning the evening for them. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with her in the future!
