A meaningful story about reading in this time

Smiling patron

The joy of my job is to meet lots of different people and learn their stories. I was invited to spend time at an outreach table (before the football game) at the Seymour school district on the evening of Friday, September 11. I greeted families to talk about the library. I was happily joined by Michelle Erickson who is the school media specialist for the district and serves on our Board of Trustees.

Fran stepped up to our table. She shared an important story. Her grandson was put on a devices’ “diet” for the summer. He lives in a different state. When he returned to school this fall, during the baseline reading test his reading abilities had jumped by two grade levels. He told his grandmother that he did a lot of reading this summer!

Here is the lesson. It is proven that academic abilities improve with reading! Spend less time on devices and more time reading and you will see the positive difference this can make in your life. This message is for all of us! Thank you for telling us your story Fran!
